Vehicle make/model = oldsmobile cutlass Year = 1999 Mileage = 106000 Engine size = 3.1 dash lights = no codes = no work done prior = unknown work done to repair = unknown tech = sf question = when climbing a hill i notice that the transmission bounces between 3rd & overdrive. if i push the gas it will go into 3rd. as i pick up speed it will shift to overdrive. it only happens when i'm not pushing the gas very much. just bought car.
SF: Downshifting on a hill or grade is a normal condition depending on the grade, load on the engine, overall condition of vehicle. If no codes stored, then trans. may be function normally. If you think that the condition is severe, then a filter and fluid change is always a good idea. You may want to have a trans tech take it for a test drive to determine if up/down shifting is excessive. Most large transmission repair shops will do this for free.
