2002 Olds Aurora Engine size = 3.5L V6 dash lights = airbag codes = none work done prior = I changed the air pump and cleared error code p0410. Work done to repair = none tech = kk question = I just changed my air pump due to failure. Replaced with newer version. Did not clear error code yet. Drove the next day for an hour or so. Next day I borrowed my friends code analyzer to clear error code and check. After clearing I started the car and the check engine light did go out, but why does my airbag light came on and showed "air bag problem" on DIC. Checked airbag fuse, beat on steering wheel and horn with no luck. Could I have knocked something loose that could easily be checked. Is there a way to disable to get rid of the chime and error light without diagnosing the problem?
KK: Hello and welcome. Yes, it is possible that this repair caused the airbag light. On top of the front frame cross member, the front end impact sensor is bolted. More toward the center/passenger side. But the harness does run along to the dr. side of the front frame, then up into to main harness. There are also a few ground wires on the trans. bellhousing that can accidentally be broken when working in that area. Without scanning for codes, cant be sure. There is no way to disable the airbag system and have the light go out. More repair info on secondary air injection codes P0410.
Problem with my 2002 Olds Aurora Mileage = 105,000 Engine size = 3.5L How found us = google search GM tech = KK question = Firstly I would love to make a donation but right now things are so bad I can hardly afford to keep a roof over my head. I would appreciate help with a small problem. Why does my 2002 Aurora, 3.5L using oil. Maybe over 2 qts. a month or less. No signs of burning it. No leaks at all. Black soot at exhaust tips. Plugs are black. Runs great, nice car except for this problem. Any thoughts??
KK: These engine do burn some oil, but this sounds excessive, unless you are putting on 3,000 miles per month. If the plugs are black and soot on the tailpipe, then it is burning oil. Simple thing to change the PCV valve first. Another common cause is the "Oil distribution manifold" This sits below the intake manifold in the engine valley. They leak internally and externally. When externally, you dont usually see oil under the car. It stays in the valley.
