Problem with my Olds Alero
Year = 2001
Mileage = 92000
Engine size = 2.4Lt
dash lights = Why does my service vehicle soon come on
tech = JK
question = Dear Jk, I have a problem with my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. I recently had the
service vehicle soon light come on. So i look in the booklet that came
with it and was wondering if it was the Automatic Lighting Control and
how to fix it. Only the Daytime Running light are working and i have no
nighttime light
i would greatly appreciate this

Thank you

JK:
The Service Vehicle Soon light can come on for several reasons. A problem in the ABS system
which will usually cause a
Traction system light, A communication problem between the BCM and
another computer, or in the interior or exterior lighting systems. If you are describing that the
automatic headlights do not work, or the headlights do not work from the headlight switch, then
the first thing to do as always is to
check ALL fuses. The Service Vehicle light can come on for
something as simple as a blown fuse, headlight bulb(s) burned out, or can get more involved as a
problem with the ambient light sensor for the auto headlamps.

checked fuses.

JK:
If there were other electrical problems with the car, i would suspect a bad ignition switch
or fuse block/junction block problem. This would have to be a problem in the PCM, the
Class II data wire from the PCM to the cluster, or an internal cluster problem. Gauges are
send data on the Class II line and the cluster interprets the data. A scanner that can read
inputs to the cluster would be need to see if the PCM is sending data. And diagnosis of
the data line for an open or short to ground.
