Transmission filter change

Unread post by Curious » Fri Jul 05, 2013 11:01 am

How hard is it suppose to be to get filter to Snap in?
It did not seem to be in tight, will it stay in?

how difficult was it to remove the old filter? Shouldn't be able to fall out by itself... what is your year make model engine size and trans?

93 New Yorker 5th Ave 3.3, and a 3.8.
It kind of snapped out but it didn't Snap going in.
I hit it with the butt of my palm, the little pegs clicked ,the round one felt not Snapped in.

you put the new O-ring in right? that's what seals the tube when it gets pushed up into the filter port. You may want to lube up the O-ring before you put nit in.

I did lube it , think that it is what is holding it up.
Felt like it was too firm / fat an O- ring.
Will it fall off in the pan?
Can it hurt it ?
It seems to shift harder, ...

yes, sometimes the O-ring is tough to get in. it has to be squeezed in until it slips into a groove in the trans. that's the snap you probably felt taking the old one out. the o-ring coming out of the groove. sometimes installing the filter and either rocking or twisting the filter side to side (slightly) will help get the o-ring in. The filter is like a pick up for the trans. If the o-ring doesn't seal the suction that might pull from around the seal instead of through the filter.
