rear differential gear change question

Unread post by srludi » Thu May 23, 2013 3:41 pm

Hello, I have a 1990 F-250 4x2 5 speed manual with a 460 cu/in engine. I currently have a 4.10 rear end. I don't do much towing any more so I was thinking of changing to a 3.55 rear end. Would this make enough of a difference on the MPG to warrant the expense?

Anything you can do to lower rpm's while cruising will help MPG. Will it be a significant difference? Probably not a whole lot, maybe a couple MPG at most. Is that worth changing the gear out? That's up to you.
