Unread post by melissa.roby.37 » Thu Aug 22, 2013 4:45 am

my car has been idling high for the past week I would have to floor the gas to get to 55mph. My rpm will go to 3 then 4 when I reach 55 it will go to 2 until I stop then it start all over again. Today it will start up but won't go into gear

sounds like you have two problems. 1. high idle 2. trans slip or not changing gears and now no trans engagement. High idle, I would look for a vacuum leak. (check pcv valve vacuum circuit) but, that's all secondary if you can't even drive the car. If your transmission won't go into any gear you probably will have to change or rebuild your trans. Check to make sure your transmission fluid is full. trans fluid should look red. Not dark brown or black. And it should not smell burnt. but, usually when Taurus transmissions no longer go into any gear they will need to be replaced

1997 Sable - Proper Wrench for EGR Tubing Nut

Unread post by searchlight » Thu Nov 26, 2015 1:40 am

Wanted to change the EGR valve on my 1997 Sable 3.0L Vulcan but I did not have the proper wrench to loosen the nut that attaches the EGR tubing to the EGR valve.

Does anyone know what is the size of that nut and/or what is proper size of a wrench to loosen it?

I do not want to pay big bucks to the dealer if I can do it myself.

Looked all over but no one seems to know the nut size and/or the proper sized wrench to use.

Info is appreciated

this video may help you
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74T0212uVgk

however, in the video He took off more than he needed to. Just take the big nut off and the two small bolts to take the egr valve all by itself and leave the engine part where it is. (just look at the new part and you will be able to see what should come off.

The video is great but I need to know the specific size of the wrench used. In my case, the egr is attached to the block next to the Iac valve with the tubing directly attached to the valve with a large nut.

My egr setup is different than the one in the video.

so then the 1 and 1/16 inch wrench the guy talks about in the video is not the size of the one in your car?

His engine configuration is different from mine, so I cannot say for certainty that his wrench or nut size would fit.

I need someone who has my specific engine config for a 1997 Sable to tell me for sure.

so, you're not going to check to see if the 1 1/16" is correct then? Do you have and adjustable wench that can open that far?
