alternator replacement

Unread post by Grimschnopfel » Fri Oct 16, 2015 9:17 am

I had alternator replaced on 2006 Ford Focus wagon and mechanic said he had to drop the front axle. Is he pulling a fast one and where exactly is the alternator situated?

have you looked at your engine to see where your alternator is located at? Does it look like there is room to get it out of the area where it is located at? Without looking at the alternator's location myself, there are some vehicles that you remove the axle to allow enough space to get the alternator out.

that being said, there is an engine roll restricter that can be unbolted. with the transmission in neutral, that will allow the engine to be pulled (rolled) forward and would allow the alternator to come out through the top.
