1993 Chevy 1500 with 5.7 is dumping fuel at idle

We have a 1993 Chevy C1500 with a 5.7 that is dumping fuel at idle. We've put new injectors in it, new map sensor, O2 sensor, air control sensor, temp. sensor, new computer & chip, EGR sensor, Pickup in distributer, new distributer wires, new cam, lifters, timing chain & gears, fuel pump,& top end of throttle body. We've taken it to Sands Chevrolet & Gateway Chevrolet and nobody can find the problem.

Sounds like a grounded wire for the injector circuits.
PCM controls the ground. If the ground circuit is shorted out somewhere, that would cause the injectors to be open all the time.

Disconnect the ground wire at the injectors and the ECM. Test that wire for being shiorted to ground. If it is not, then the ECM is bad.

Well, your going to have to tell us what the codes were before all the repairs and what codes have returned.

It is possible that the computer iss bad, but you would need to rule out the sensors for those codes and the related wiring first.

Cam and crank codes could be because the distrubutor is off a little bit.

MAF could be a bad sensor or wiring.

Also check for a broken ground on top of the block, passenger side rear, behind the intake manifold right next to the head.

1991 Chevy Cheyenne sudden knocking in engine

Unread post by rowdyrenay » Mon Nov 03, 2014 11:45 am

I parked my truck last night and all was good with the world. Got in it just now and tri to start it, it turned over then clicked. I checked the battery cables...loose, so I tightened. The truck then started and is now knocking in the drivers side. Checked oil, its fine. What could cause this sudden knocking? Possibly the oil pump?

hard to say without actually hearing the noise. You might want to have a shop listen to the noise and ask if they might know what it could be. As far as oil pump, is the oil light on? do you have an oil pressure gauge? it could also be a lifter that isn't pumped up. could be an exhaust manifold leak. could be a loose spark plug.

where does the noise sound like it's coming from? If it not a loud knocking noise (like a crank or rod bearing) drive until the engine is up to normal operating temp and shut the engine off. Let it cool all the way back down and then see it the noise goes away on a new restart.
