2000 cavalier heater coil location

Unread post by mauphead » Sun Jan 10, 2010 2:06 am

I have a 2000 cavalier and I believe the heater coil is going out, because I smell antifreeze inside the car. I need to know where the coil is located and how to access it? I have no experience in changing a heater coil and would also like to know whether or not I should try to replace it myself?

Yes, does sound like the heater core.
It is buried behind the dash, inside the heater / AC case. The entire dash needs to come out, then the entire heater / AC case, then take the case apart and replace the core.
Would not suggest trying it yourself unless you have experience working on cars in general, and more importantly- removing dashboards.
