I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am with a 3.4L engine. I also have a 2003 Olds Alero with a 3.4L engine. I'm wanting to swap the engine out of the Grand-Am and put it into the Alero. I'm needing to know if i could and if would be a hassle because of different cars. And what i'd have to do to make it happen. Like would i have to change the computer out or anything, all info is appreciated on this.
Thanks in advance, Shane
Installing 2002 3.4L engine in a 1999 Grand Am
Re: 99 grand-am & 03 Alero
The engines would fit and bolt up to the trans.
May have to swap oil pans.
Engine mounts may be in different locations, but shoould be able change them.
Computer and engine harness would need to be changed. Sensor plugs are different, and some sensors would have different locations of certain wires in different locations in the plug.
Would be quite an undertaking. Would also most likely find other things along the way that would need to be changed, swapped, fitted.

Re: 99 grand-am & 03 Alero
Your right Terry.
A lot of things to do.
Anything can done, just a matter of how much time, energy, and money a person has.
If i had a few free weekends, i am sure i could get it done. That is if my wife let me spend the money !!! LOL

Installing 2002 3.4L engine in a 1999 Grand Am
My 1999 3.4L engine needs replaced, there is a 2002 3.4L I need to buy to put in it. I have heard differnt opinions on what to do. The 2 engines are IDENTICLE in just about every way appeaance wise. There may be minor sensor differences but other than that why can't this engine be used?

Should go in just fine. Sensors will be different. May have to reprogram computer.
