1996 S-10 4X4
Mileage = 100000
Engine size = 4.3 Vortec V6.
Question = Will a 4L60E transmission from a 1996 2 wheel drive S-10 fit
in a 1996 4 wheel drive S10

KK:
No. The output shafts are different lengths. Disassembly would be needed
to swap the output shaft.

Repair= I replaced the fuel pump a couple of years ago but it worked fine after I
did that until recently
Question = My S-10 would go down the road fine and then it would die out like it
was running out of gas.  It seemed like it would do that after the engine got
warmed up.  After it sits for a little while, it will start back up.  I thought it might be
the fuel pump but I can hear it run when I turn on the key.  I haven't checked to
see if it has fire or fuel at that point because I was not in a position to do so when
the problem occurred.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.  Jack
Answer: I would check fuel pressure first. Even if you can hear the
pump running, that doesn't mean that it's producing enough
pressure or volume to run the vehicle. You should have a reading of
55psi with the key on, and it should hold steady and not fall off. The
fuel filter should be checked too, since if it's clogged badly, it will
restrict the fuel getting to the engine and cause a situation like you
describe as well. If you've got a lot of miles and have not changed
the distributor cap and rotor, and ignition wires and plugs, I would
recommend doing that too. Corrosion from moisture inside the cap
will give Driveability problems like that too. I've seen some coils go
bad on your style vehicle too, but they are usually working or dead
and not often give a problem like that, but it's worth looking at. Any
external arcing around the coil bracket would deem a replacement.
Other than that, check codes if there are any, and go from there.
