1999 Old Style Tahoe 4dr 4wd 5.7 Vortec. Service Engine Soon.
Repairs: replaced fuel lines
Question: I had the fuel tank out of my Old Style 1999 4dr 4wd Tahoe
to replace a rusted and leaking fuel return line. While out I also
replaced the Fuel line and filter. I used only GM parts. The tank is
back in but the car won't start. The 'Service engine soon' is on and
when I checked at the filter there is no fuel. Is there something that
needs to be reset?
Answer: Unfortunately, you probably disturbed something while
having the tank in and out and now the fuel pump isn't operational.
You obviously have no fuel pressure, if there is no fuel at the filter
when you remove it after trying to start the vehicle. You can try and
start the truck on carb spray to verify there is no other cause
preventing it from starting. It's possible you pinched the wiring
harness to the fuel pump when you reinstalled the tank. You could
have also just blown a fuse, that's an easy check so do that first. If
that doesn't help, you're going to have to remove the tank again to
look for crushed wires or crimped fuel lines. Check for power at the
fuel pump connector. If everything checks ok, you have a bad fuel
pump.
