Chevy Silverado ck1500
Question: i was just wondering if i could mount a used gas tank on
the bed of my truck and connect a line from the old gas tank to the
new (used) gas tank mounted in my bed. I would not want to have a
pump but just have that line always open so it will feed into the tank
whenever it needs gas.
Answer: It would be difficult to make work correctly,
especially without a pump in the extra tank. You would
have some gravity feeding of the gas from tank to tank
but it would never fully empty, there just wouldn't be
enough pressure differential to do that. Plus, cutting a
hole in the existing tank is just asking for an emission
code to set, let alone a possible vapor leak and fire
hazzard. The emission system is looking for a certain
pressure range in the tank, and by connecting a line to
another tank, you're basically doubling the area and the
reading would be out of range. You'd have a check
engine light on all the time with that problem, and you'd
never be able to fix it due to the other tank. I would
suggest just sticking with the factory setup and be
problem free. You might make more stops at the gas
station, but you'll never have a problem.

Repairs for this problem : changed cap and rotor replaced all fuses changed steering column
still wont run popping through carb
Question: why wont it run right what else should we check. Got exhaust put on and hooked up
battery charger to boost it wrong[backwards] and battery was hooked up wrong it ran fine but
when we got it back they had moved the timing and broke lines in cap. Battery almost exploded
blew out all the fuses this was done at a garage.
Answer: Sounds like you have a handful there! With the
charger hooked up backwards, you could have very well
smoked the entire electrical system on the truck. The computer
could be trashed as well as all of the electronic ignition
components. That would need looking into, but also could be
out of time as well. I would suggest getting a new distributor and
re-time the engine. If it's dumping fuel while cranking but not
firing, you should probably check the spark plugs too. They
could be fouled out and need changing. If you have no check
engine light with the key on, there is a problem with the
computer. Unfortunately, you most likely have multiple problems
due to the battery charging issue and blown fuses. That all
would need checking as well, preferably with a scanner.
