Repairs= trying to see if this is a problem i can repair myself.
Question = i am trying to find the location of shift solenoid b for my
2005 chevy malibu Maxx i am very mechanically inclined but need to
know the location of the solenoid to see if i can take care of it myself
or do i have to bring it to a shop.
Answer: It is a job you can do yourself if you have the tools and are
mechanically inclined enough. The biggest obstacle is that you have
to remove the side cover of the transmission. This usually involves
having to support the engine and trans with a holding fixture and
lowering of the subframe. Then the transmission can be lowered
enough to get the side cover off. The shift solenoids are located on
the valve body which is just inside the side cover. I would recommend
replacing both shift solenoids as they are not that expensive and you
don't want to have to do the job twice. Looking at the side of the
transmission, the shift solenoids are located in the top two positions
on the valve body. They are square in shape, so don't confuse them
with the many other different solenoids in the valve body. Good luck!
