Problem with my 2000 Chevrolet Suburban
5.3l V8
Work done to repair this problem = replaced HVAC control head
GM tech = JK
question = Am attempting to replace the upper actuator on the HVAC
module. Need to remove I/P carrier. Have most of the carrier off, but need
to remove the handle on the passenger side, which appears to be press-fit
into plastic tubes held in place on the carrier. Is there a trick to removing
this part? I have instructions for doing this job on a 2004 Suburban but
Mitchell does not have info on this (it says "remove IP carrier" and leaves it
at that). I have all connectors out of the way, the airbag module is pulled,
the IPC is out, all airflow ducts are disconnected, the steering column is
lowered (but not removed), the center console is out. Any suggestions or
assistance would be amazing. Thanks in advance!
The handle in the dash on the passenger side is not pressed in. Can be a little
tricky to remove.
Remove the HVAC vents on either side of it. Each handle has a release tab
accessed though the opening of the vents when removed. Press the tab on
one side while pulling out just a little, then while holding that side, press the tab
on the other side and pull that side out a little. Then pull both sides equally.
Can be a little tight. The handle has rods attached to each end a few inches
long. Pressing the tabs releases the rods from the dash- similar to removing a
headrest
