question = i seen where you answered this question on a car with 31000 miles and i
was wondering if mine was under the same warranty due to my mileage. I don't know
how to find out. If it is not covered how much is that part and service gonna cost me?
Not sure exactly which question you were referring ton, but the warranty on electric power
steering components is 3 years, 36k miles.
Depending on which part is faulty on you car, the repair can cost as high as $700-$800,
UPDATE: Since this post, there had been a power steering recall on the motors. Contact
your local Dealer.
Power steering relies on a simple principle- a hydraulic pump running off a belt driven by the engine places a small amount of fluid under pressure, which in turn assists the steering mechanism in directing the tires as you turn the steering wheel. The system typically includes a pump, a pressure hose assembly, a control valve, and a return line. There are three types of power steering systems used on passenger vehicles. The first and most popular is known as power rack-and-pinion steering. It utilizes a power unit built directly into the rack assembly. When the wheel turns, an internal rotary valve directs the flow of power steering fluid to the proper end of the power cylinder. More Power Steering Information

Problem with my 2006 Chevy Cobalt LT
2.2
dash lights = NO
GM tech = KK
question = DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING CAR, TAPPED BRAKES, THEY LOCKED UP, PULLED
CAR TO RIGHT, TRIED TO CORRECT DID 360 IN ROAD AND ENDED UP IN DITCH. ANY
IDEA, DROVE CAR AFTERWARDS, BRAKES SEEM FINE NOW EVEN TO TAP
JK:
Well, if one wheel was on ice, and the other on dry pavement, this could
happen.
If not, then may have a right front brake caliper sticking.
With no dash lights, would not be an ABS problem.
Suggest getting it into a shop for inspection as soon as possible.
Have brake pads and lines inspected. Have the caliper and slide
inspected for free movement.
