My 2001 Chevy 1500 Express Van
5.3 V8
Repairs = none
GM tech = JK
question = No tow/haul light on,does not activate when I push the
button.
JK:
The switch and function are controlled by the body control module(BCM)
Possible switch or bcm faulty. Would need to check the resistance across the switch
when depressed- it should have continuity. If switch is ok, then probably a BCM
problem, or wiring to it, or ground side of switch. The black wire on switch must have
a good ground.

Question: Hi, We bought a 2006 chevy Silverado LT 1500, last weekend and the key less remote had
been lost by the previous owner. We were told that someone had opened the truck from the inside,
setting off the alarm and had to some how, unknown by the dealer, and now the security light on the
dash will not go off and we've bought a new remote and tried to set it to the truck with no luck. How
can we reset the system so we can use the new one? When the alarm had been set off it was some
how shut off. The dealer didn't know how since they bought it from an auction.
Answer: OK. Then it sounds like the system has turned on the
light because of the previous problem, but it is not effecting the
theft / security. You can try to disconnect the battery for a few
minutes, then reconnect to see if that help. If not, you may
need to take it to the dealer to have a relearn procedure done,
and to program the remote.
2000 Chevy Express Van Engine size = 5.3l Vortec
Warning lights = check engine
Repairs made= checked and charged battery.
Question = battery is good and has full charge. Everything lights up but when i turn the key
everything shuts off with a click but the engine doesn't make a sound . Is it a short or should i be
looking for something else.
Answer: As long as you are sure the battery is good, you could
have a bad starter on the van. Normally the lights, etc, go off
when the key is turned to the 'crank' position. I would check for
power at the starter solenoid, usually a purple wire, while
someone tries to start the van. If you have power there, then
you know it is a bad starter. Otherwise, could be wiring, or even
a bad ignition switch. That would require more circuit testing
and component testing. If you can find a schematic, you can
trace the ignition circuit through the switch, fuse box, computer,
and finally to the starter. That would help eliminate things as
you go along. Also check the battery ground. Follow the
negative cable from the battery down to the engine and make
sure that ground is clean and tight.
