Question:
2007 Chevy Impala V6. How can I tell if I have a wheel Bearing going out. When driving it sounds like a airplane
and I cant tell which wheel its coming from.
Answer:
The best way to determine which hub bearing is bad is to drive at a speed where the
noise is present. Then make a sort of swooping turn. Similar to getting on or off the
Expressway. The rule of thumb is that if when turning right the noise goes away or gets less
noticeable then the right bearing is bad, front or rear. This is because turning to the right takes
the load off the right front bearing because of vehicle body roll. Same thing for the left side.
Hubs can be a little difficult to replace. Bolts are very tight.
For a front bearing, first, remove the brakes and the rotor, remove the large center axle nut. Then the three 15mm head bolts on the back of the spindle. The spindle is the large part that the hub bolts to. Now pound out the hub off the axle shaft and from the spindle. Using a large pry bars between the hub and the spindle will help free it up. If it is very stuck, then use a torch to apply some heat.
Question:
Problem with my 2001 Chevrolet Impala.
Repairs = Replacement of Ignition Lock cylinder.
My 01 Chevy Impala lock cylinder was not allowing me to turn the key. I Parked
my car and went out to start it again about an hour and a half later and I was not able to turn
the key. I installed a new lock cylinder and it will not start. I also noticed that my steering wheel
does not lock anymore. When I put in the new cylinder I am able to shift the shifter with out
Pressing on the brake pedal. I put the old cylinder back in and the shifter and brake pedal
work normally but car will still not start so I reinstalled new cylinder. To make things even
worse I cannot turn the key all the way back to the off
position to get the key out.
Question:
The crankshaft pulley does not line up with the other pulleys and the serpentine belt leaves some of the groves on the crankshaft pulley not covered. The belt is on the back half of the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley appears to be out of line with the other pulleys. Protruding farther outside the line with the other pulleys. Therefore the belt is on the rear part of the pulley. Not in the entire groves of the pulley. Thank You!!!
Answer:
Has there been any recent work done to the car? Sounds like either the crank pulley bolt is loose and the pulley has walked forward, or the balancer portion inside the pulley is bad. That is a rubber insert that can deteriorate.
