Problem with my = 2003 Buick Lesabre
3.8L
Check Engine Soon alone with Gas Cap Loose. Both have been on for
about three years.
GM tech = JK
question = My 03 Buick Lesabre is making noise. I thought it sounded like a
wheel bearing. This was confirmed by a mechanic at a Firestone store.
What I'd like to know is how do I determine which wheel it is and how difficult
is it to change.
JK:
The best way to determine what front side bearing is bad is to drive at a
speed where the noise is present. Then make a sort of swooping turn.
Similar to getting off the expressway.
The rule of thumb is that if when turning right, if the noise goes away or
gets less, then the right bearing is bad because turning right takes the
load off the right front because of body roll.
Vice versa for the left side.
These hubs can be a little difficult to replace. Bolts are very tight.
Remove the brakes and the rotor.
Remove the large axle nut.
Remove the 3 15mm head bolts on the back of the spindle. The spindle is
the large part the hub bolts to.
Then pound out the hub off the axle shaft and from the spindle.
1996 Buick Lesabre 3.8 v6.
Check engine light.
Computer codes: none that have seen.
Replaced fuel pump.
Question = After fuel pump was replaced the vehicle would start right up. Filled the gas tank with
gas and from then on needed to spray starter fluid to start the vehicle. We have also replaced fuel
filter and checked fuel pump relay and fuse. Any ideas?
Answer: If the check engine light is on, then there are codes stored
in the computer. If you replaced to the fuel pump for a different
problem than this, and it started fine before the tank was filled, you
may have gotten some bad gas. Use a fuel pressure gauge to
check pressure first, the if the pressure is good, drain some fuel
from the gauge into a glass jar and let it sit for a few minutes. If it is
contaminated, the gas will separate from the other liquid, or the
whole thing will look cloudy and dirty if you have bad gas.
